Paul’s Why
Associate Professional Clinical Counselor
Welcome, and thank you for learning more about me and my position as an associate professional clinical counselor with Koru Counseling Center.
I grew up in Los Angeles, enlisted in the US Army after high school, and then worked in hospitals, on ambulances, and had a career in the fire service. Helping others in need has been my life’s work, but over time this work began to change me. My personal experience with counseling helped me to feel myself again and led me to want to help others process their trauma and other emotional burdens. I began working with the Sacramento Regional Peer Support Team where I found that I was not alone in my struggle to make peace with the past and found that most people are carrying invisible wounds and counseling can help them heal. This was why I decided to become a professional clinical counselor.
My education and experience have prepared me to work with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as many other struggles. I am trained in using many different approaches while working with clients including cognitive behavioral, Brainspotting, person-centered, and narrative therapies.
Whatever brings you in, you will find a supportive, non-judgmental and compassionate atmosphere waiting for your arrival. I will take the time to really understand you and your struggles and to explore solutions to your unique challenges so you can become the best version of yourself, whatever that looks like to you. I congratulate you in taking the first step in the healing process by reaching out, and I look forward to getting to know you.
